Interior Health issues warning about leaflets promoting Ivermectin

Recently, leaflets promoting the sale of Ivermectin have been making the rounds in Kelowna.

During the height of the pandemic, some individuals believed that taking Ivermectin, a medication that helps to treat some parasitic diseases in humans and animals would help to cure the effects of COVID-19.

The idea was wildly spread when popular podcaster, Joe Rogan, admitted he used the medication to treat his symptoms.

Health professionals across the globe were quick to dismiss these claims and have maintained that Ivermectin has not been authorized for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19.

Using the product, especially the veterinary version intended for animals, may cause serious health problems.

Ivermectin products for animals have a higher concentrated dose than Ivermectin products for people; and high doses of the veterinary version may cause vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, allergic reactions, dizziness, seizures, coma and even death.

“Health Canada is advising Canadians not to use either the veterinary or human drug versions of Ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19,” said Interior Health.

“There is no evidence that Ivermectin in either formulation is safe or effective when used for those purposes.”

The handouts being found in mailboxes across the city are promoting the use of the drug and contain a special promo that would offer a wholesale price list of Ivermectin.

According to Health Canada, it is illegal to sell or advertise a drug in a false, misleading or deceptive manner; as the department works to remove advertisers claiming Ivermectin to be a COVID-19 treatment.
