Man shot by police, sent to hospital following incident in the Interior

Police in the North Thompson had to act cautiously when dealing with a man holding a weapon recently.

According to RCMP, at 10 pm on Friday, officers were called to the 2900 block of Hwy 5 near Barriere for reports of a man acting erratically on the side of the road. The man was allegedly holding a weapon at the time of the incident.

Officers quickly flooded the area and located the man. A short interaction occurred before police fired shots.

The man was shot and injured. Police were unharmed.

Officers conducted first aid on the suspect until the BC Ambulance Service arrived. He was then transported to a local hospital.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC was called to the scene to determine whether the man's injuries were directly caused by police actions. Members from the Southeast District General Investigation Section are also conducting a concurrent criminal code investigation.

No further information is available at this time.
