Tolko's BC Operations to take 'holiday downtime'

It looks like more downtime will be coming to Tolko's BC Operations.

The company announced on Thursday that they will be taking two weeks off from December 21st to January 6th. According to Tolko BC, the downtime comes during the holiday season after the examination of log costs, market conditions, and cumulative policy burden.

In addition to mills in Kamloops, Williams Lake, Kelowna, and more taking a break, Tolko's corporate office in Vernon will be closed the week of December 23rd to the 27th. During this period, staffing levels will be restricted to essential services.

“This downtime will reduce output by approximately 21 million board feet of lumber production and 10 million square feet of panel production,” said Tolko Vice President, Troy Connolly.

Tolko's Vice President of Marketing and Sales went on to assure customers that they will do all they can to limit the damage caused by the downtime.

“will continue to support our customers and do our best to minimize any impacts," said Pino Pucci. "Our customers are understanding of current market conditions and aware of our ongoing commitment to serve them.”

The last day of operations is December 20th. For more on the downtime, click here.
