‘Tragic event’: 15-year-old dies in ATV crash north of Kamloops

An investigation into a fatal ATV accident, which claimed the life of a teenager, is underway in the community of Barriere.

The Barriere RCMP says officers responded to the incident near the 2 km mark of the Darlington Creek Forest Service Road around 4:30 pm on Sunday.

Investigators learned that an ATV driven by a 15-year-old, who was carrying a passenger at the time, flipped over after the youth lost control.

Sadly, the driver succumbed to his injuries. The passenger suffered minor injuries.

“Initial evidence gathered at the scene suggests the youth was not wearing a seat belt,” noted an RCMP release.

Cpl. Kyle Camalush from the Barriere RCMP extended his condolences to the families and friends of the victim on behalf of the detachment, and noted that its being felt by many in the area.

“This tragic event has had a significant impact on all communities surrounding Barriere,” he said.

The RCMP and BC Coroners Service are both conducting their own investigations into the fatal incident.
