Mounties in the West Kootenays are looking to speak to potential witnesses of a fatal vehicle collision on Highway 3 on Monday afternoon.
At about 1 pm, emergency crews, including the Nelson RCMP and BC Highway Patrol responded to a report of a collision on Highway 3 and 6 near Nelson.
The collision happened near Bonnington Road, which is about 18 km west of Nelson.
Unfortunately, a 63-year-old man who was riding his motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.
An initial investigation found that the motorcyclist had struck an SUV which was stopped in the passing lane, trying to make a left hand turn off the highway, says a release.
Investigators believe that the motorcycle was not able to stop in time to avoid the collision.
An investigation continues to determine what exactly happened.
Anyone who may have been travelling through the area and may have dash cam footage is asked to call the Nelson RCMP at (250) 352-2156 and refer to file 2023-4919.
