The Kamloops Blazers family suffered a huge loss when team president Don Moores passed away unexpectedly on June 30.
His passing left a huge void in the organization and the club will be doing multiple things to honour his memory this year.
“This season is dedicated to honouring the inspiration and commitment that Don Moores brought to the Kamloops Blazers,” said Tom Gaglardi, team governor.
“We miss him greatly and believe his influence and legacy will continue to be felt for many years throughout the organization and in the community.”
A Blazers-themed ‘DM’ logo has been drawn up, which will be worn as a decal on players’ helmets and displayed proudly on the ice behind each goal for the entire season.
The club has also installed the logo on the table in the loge seating area at the north end of the Sandman Centre.
“Don was a driving force in innovation and improvement of the overall atmosphere at the Sandman Centre,” explained a release from the Blazers.
On Friday, Nov. 19, there will be a special pregame ceremony dedicated to Moores before the Blazers take on the Victoria Royals.
It will be a chance to celebrate his contributions to the franchise and the Kamloops community as a whole, the club said.
