In this episode of Business Matters, presented by Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union, Rob Cupello is joined again by Amy Nicole Cohen, Founder of Chic Studios School of Makeup.
Cohen, who holds many titles including co-founder of Chic Creative Community, small business marketing mentor, and unofficial event planner delves into the details of her most recent event offerings through Chic Studios, and how she balances her multifaceted career.
“I’ve always prioritized myself,” says Cohen, “I don’t minimize what makes me happy.”
Over the past nine months, she has been shifting away from putting on other people's events, and getting back to organizing her own, although she’s not officially an event planner, she says she “absolutely loves bringing people together.”
Her upcoming event, The Chic Retreat at Sparkling Hill, presented by A Chic Experience aims to empower women and entrepreneurs through education, and connection with like-minded individuals.
When asked where the concept came from and how she was able to organize this retreat she explains “going to events, I saw gaps in the market… and I'm a big dreamer, if you hear me say I’ll do something, I will do it.”
With a background in marketing, Cohen was able to sell out this event by “being social and telling people what [she’s] up to” and taking advantage of organic marketing opportunities in the local community. She also ensures that a portion of tickets are reserved for gifting and contesting to ensure the events are accessible, and spread the word.
Cohen also runs smaller community initiatives like Connect and Collab which is free of charge and open to the public; she firmly believes that “we win when everyone else around us wins.”
