BC Ferries gets $308M in funding to cover expenses and lost revenue due to COVID-19

The federal and provincial governments have announced how BC Transit, Translink and BC Ferries will share more than $1-billion in funding from the Safe Restart Agreement.

BC Ferries will receive $308 million in funding over the next two years, which will cover a number of costs related to economic recovery from COVID-19.

The company says it has already submitted a detailed plan to meet the public interest and the interests of customers in the provision of safe, reliable and affordable ferry service.

"We thank the federal and provincial governments for working with us to address the impact COVID-19 has had on transportation and on the ferry system,” said Mark Collins, BC Ferries president and CEO.

“This investment can help us to maintain essential ferry service that B.C.'s coastal communities rely on and supports the economic recovery of our province."

The Safe Restart Agreement was announced earlier in the summer and the cost is split 50-50 between the Government of Canada and Government of BC.
