BC records 97 new cases of COVID-19 as hospitalizations continue to rise

BC has recorded 97 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24-hours.

On Tuesday, health officials announced the new cases along with updated information of hospital patients with the virus.

There are now 63 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, 20 of whom are in intensive care.

That's up 31 patients from the official report on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

No additional COVID-19 related deaths have been announced after BC recorded six deaths between Friday and Monday.

In a written statement, health officials commented on the on-going situation in BC classrooms that the teacher's union continues to criticize.

“As teachers and youth get back to the classroom, public health teams have been there and are working closely with schools to manage and contact trace any time a COVID-19 case arises," read the statement.

“Let’s continue to monitor ourselves for symptoms and to modify our activities so we can all manage COVID-19 as it remains in our communities. Let’s take the precautions we need to that will protect ourselves, our loved ones, our Elders and our communities.”
