BC sets new high with 13 COVID-19 deaths along with 738 new cases

Health officials announced 738 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

BC also confirmed 13 more deaths related to virus, bringing the province's death toll to 371.

The vast majority of the new cases remain clustered in the Lower mainland, with 169 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 443 in the Fraser Health region, 70 in the Interior Health region, 21 in Island Health and 35 in the Northern Health region.

Hospitalizations remain at an all-time high with 294 patients across BC with the virus, 61 of whom are in critical care.

There are now 10,270 people under public health monitoring after being exposed to the virus.

Officials also revised daily case totals from Nov. 16 to Nov. 24, owing to data reporting errors in the Fraser Health region.

The correction saw total case numbers increase on several days, but also saw Tuesday’s record-breaking 941 new cases revised down to 706.

Dr. Bonnie Henry said the province has received rapid tests from Ottawa, but not enough to do all of BC's health care workers just once.

She also said the rapid tests are not as efficient as the regular test and are only meant for people who are symptomatic.

Regarding a potential vaccine, Henry said she's hopeful it will be delivered in January and distribution can begin then.

On Tuesday, BC announced further restrictions ordering dance studios, yoga studios, gymnastics centres and other spaces offering group indoor fitness activity to temporarily suspend those activities.
