While some UBC Okanagan students spent their reading week relaxing and catching up on sleep, others spent their time giving back to the local community.
More than 55 students from UBCO donated their break week to the United Way of Caring Program. The organization provides opportunities for children and youth to learn, connect with the community, and support for their emotional and physical well-being.
The Days of Caring was organized through UBC Community Service Learning Program Okanagan. Students volunteered their free time in a variety of projects and community programs.
One group spent time at the YMCA doing a number of construction based projects, while others cooked pancakes for the kids at the Boys and Girls Club in Lake Country.
In total, almost 300 hours of time was donated to the United Way, saving the agencies over $4500 in labour costs.
