Alberta man charged for travelling 210 km/hr along Highway 97

An Alberta man has been charged and his vehicle impounded after he was stopped by RCMP for speeding on Saturday night.

On May 28, at 6:20 p.m., a member of the RCMP Integrated Road Safety Unit was conducting a speed enforcement operation along Highway 97 in Lake Country when the officer stopped a white 2010 Audi R8.

According to the RCMP, the driver had been travelling in excess of 210 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. The motorist was near Pelmewash Parkway when he was pulled over and weather and road conditions were not ideal at the time as it was raining and the highway was wet.

“RCMP would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to slow down, especially on wet roads and in bad weather conditions,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey. “High-risk driving behaviours, like speeding, increase your chances of crashing and put yourself and others at risk of sustaining serious injury.”

The driver was charged with excessive speed and was given a violation ticket for $483, his vehicle as towed and impounded for seven days.
