The numbers are in and there are some encouraging signs when it comes to housing starts in Kelowna.
The first five months of 2017 have represented the strongest spring building season on record for the Central Okanagan.
Since the start of the year, 1,644 housing projects have begun in Kelowna, compared to just 876 in the same timeframe last year.
Of those 1,644 housing starts, 466 came in May, which is more than double the amount from May 2016.
The surge in new homes getting underway has been largely driven by a number of large apartment rental projects.
This should go a long way into fixing some issues that come with renting in Kelowna, as the vacancy rate has remained below 1% for the last two years despite strong population growth.
Kelowna’s numbers are even impressive when you compare it to Vancouver or Victoria, both of which have seen a decrease in housing starts compared to this time last year.
