Peachland asking riders to respect the tranquility of Beach Avenue

Riders are very much welcome in Peachland, but they’re being asked to respect the typically quiet stretch of Beach Avenue.

Today, mayor Cindy Fortin arrived on a motorcycle, in a quiet fashion, to announce a new campaign ahead of the May long weekend that claims “real rebels know when to pipe down.”

“Beach Avenue is a wonderful spot to spend a summer afternoon, and we welcome all tourists to our town, including riders,” says Mayor Fortin. “However, no one enjoys their time when excessive and unnecessary noise disrupts them.”

The District of Peachland has printed drink coasters for distribution to Beach Avenue cafes, restaurants and pubs, which includes the message of this campaign.

Peachland isn’t the first Canadian community to start a campaign like this, as similar ones have been seen in Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Bathurst, Saint John, St. John’s and Kelowna.

A motorized vehicle can be fined under the motor vehicle act for unnecessary noise coming from motors, exhaust systems or squealing tires.

Peachland expects many visitors over the Victoria Day long weekend, especially for Sunday’s World of Wheels Car Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Beach Avenue.

The show will close Beach Avenue from 1st street to 8th street.
