PHOTOS: Annual Downtown Block Party in full swing

The Downtown Kelowna Block Party is back again for another year of fostering community and supporting downtown business.

Sprawling throughout a large portion of Bernard Avenue, the annual event transforms city blocks into a vibrant street market — boasting vendors, live music, food trucks, sidewalk sales, activities and more.

Looked forward to as one of the summer’s staple events, the Block Party is a beacon for thousands of tourists and locals alike as it spotlights local businesses in addition to showcasing all that Kelowna has to offer.

“We come down almost every year — its an enjoyable thing to just walk around and see the different stuff,” said attendee Christie Johnston.

“I think it brings together the community and it is a chance for you to see the shops that maybe you wouldn’t necessarily go into — it makes them easily accessible,” added Calla Johnston, Christie’s daughter.

For the 2019 edition of the event, Bernard Avenue hosted over 150 vendors from downtown, including clothing stores, restaurants and even organizations like the Dragoon’s, Okanagan College and Recycle BC from different areas of Kelowna.

Amidst the potential to browse the wares of new-to-you businesses, the event is also bursting with fun, family-friendly activities.

With dog agility and basketball, to face-painting, bouncy houses, bubbles and photo booths — Opportunities to join in on community-oriented fun are everywhere you turn.

Food truck favourites like Surfside California are onsite to keep you nourished as you adventure on and team members from BMO are wandering about handing out refreshing and free freezies to all.
