(UPDATE: Aug. 14 @ 1:22 pm): The RCMP has now confirmed that two seniors died in a tragic crash west of Kamloops last night.
An 84-year-old man from the Thompson area died at the scene and a 77-year-old woman died in hospital.
Another victim of the crash, aged 83, remains in hospital with serious injuries.
A Ford Fiesta and Dodge Journey collided just after 5 pm along Hwy 1, near the intersection of Deadman Vidette Road.
"Initial findings at the scene suggest that a westbound red Ford Fiesta suddenly crossed the centre line and collided head-on with an eastbound red Dodge Journey," police explained.
The 84-year-old man who died at the scene was driving the Ford, while the 77-year-old woman who died in hospital was a passenger in the Dodge.
The 83-year-old man with serious injuries was driving the Dodge.
Both Dodge occupants were residents of the Thompson area, police said.
Southeast District RCMP Central Interior Traffic Services has taken control of the police investigation.

(Original story: Aug. 14 @ 5:25 am): A person died in a two-vehicle collision near Savona last night.
The RCMP said the crash occurred at about 5:08 pm on Hwy 1 at the Deadman Vidette intersection.
Paramedics and Mounties responded, finding an occupant of one of the vehicles dead at the scene.
The highway was closed in the aftermath but has since reopened.
Police said they will release more details as their investigation progresses.
