2nd annual United Way Truck Pull raises close to $20K

Part of Tranquille Road was closed this morning for a very good cause.

The United Way of Kamloops-Nicola-Cariboo hosted its 2nd annual Truck Pull and had the full support of the community. According to UW Executive Director Danalee Baker, the event brought in close to $20,000.

"We didn't have a fundraising goal, but it looks like we raised about $20,000," said Baker. "So we are really excited about that and it's all going to go to Support Children through our Kamloops Community Fund."

Bakers adds the support of the community is the major reason they're able to run events like this, noting more is on the way in the future.

"It's really special because we've just moved into this building six weeks ago. So to have an event where everyone came out in these numbers just feels fantastic."

"You just wait and see, it's a fun event and we are certainly open to doing it again, and making sure that all our partners are on board. It's so much fun and people love it!"

Out of the 10 teams competing, the big winner from the day was Team KRC who pulled the 17,000-pound semi-truck to the finish line in just 24 seconds.

"It's pretty amazing, like the confidence that it gives, that you can pull something like that.

ARPA was the most generous team as they were able to raise $7,000 to the cause. Four Directions High School also entered a team, making them the youngest competitors.
