It was a relatively quiet weekend for the Kamloops RCMP.
The detachment responded to around 315 calls for service between Friday and Monday morning, well below the typical weekend average.
Cpl. Crystal Evelyn highlighted a few of the more notable police incidents in her weekly report:
While patrolling around 2 pm on Friday, an officer spotted a white Infiniti with an Alberta licence plate in the 1600 block of Centennial Drive. The car had been reported stolen out of Jasper, so the officer stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver for possession of stolen property. A police check discovered that the man was wanted on an arrest warrant and he was held in custody to appear in court.
Police are still looking for a suspect after a truck was stolen Friday night from the back alley of the 700 block of Battle Street. The theft wasn’t reported to the RCMP until 4:25 pm on Saturday. Shortly after, police were called to a suspicious vehicle refuelling in the 200 block of Tranquille Road after the driver, who “appeared intoxicated,” allegedly exposed himself. The truck matched the description and plates of the one stolen Friday. Around 5:45 pm, the same vehicle allegedly failed to stop for a roadblock of Orb Road and then later blew through a red light on Notre Dame Drive. The truck is described as a black 2018 GMC pickup with BC plates PA511W and a dent to the front of the passenger’s side and rear fender.
The RCMP continues to investigate after three firearms were stolen from a Jeep parked on 5th Avenue Saturday night. Officers were called to the scene Sunday morning and were told the vehicle’s window had been let slightly open while it was parked. Officers warned the owner about ensuring their firearms were stored in a secure area in the future. Shortly after, police were told of a grey Chevrolet pickup truck stolen from the same parking lot. It’s described as having two different side mirrors and damage to the rear right fender. It has BC plates KR7969. At this time, it’s unknown if the two incidents are related.
