Kamloops RCMP quickly surrounded a suspect who was causing issues on Valentine's Day.
According to police, at approximately 2:30 pm, officers received a call from a Loss Prevention Officer who stated that he confronted a man who stole merchandise from a store. When the LPO attempted to retrieve the stolen goods, the suspect produced a weapon and threatened him.
Officers attended the area of Columbia Street West, locating a man matching the description provided by the LPO. When the man was informed that he was under arrest, he fled on foot with officers chasing him.
Police set up a perimeter in the area and soon located the man in the backyard of a residence.
The man was known to police and was arrested for Theft Under $5,000, Assault with a Weapon, and Resisting Arrest. The man will appear before a judge on Saturday.
