Kamloops RCMP urge residents to be safe on boats

Kamloops RCMP is urging residents to be safe when getting onto boats this summer.

Though it is boat weather, police are reminding everyone to wear life jackets, take boating courses, be prepared with safety gear, know what weather is coming, and use common sense.

In B.C., residents need to carry a valid boating license to operate a powered watercraft. Residents can acquire one by taking a course here.

Drivers are reminded that if they are impaired, they can face the same consequences as operating a motor vehicle.

Safe boating practices include slowing down and passing on the right when meeting another boat, being considerate of other drivers, operating the craft at a safe speed, always being on the lookout for boats and debris, and avoiding spilling or littering.
