Kamloops residents told to stay indoors Thursday as RCMP investigation closes 13th Street

A portion of 13th Street was closed on Thursday afternoon due to a police investigation that involved the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Kamloops RCMP officers arrived in the area to execute a search warrant at a residence in the 1100 block of 13th Street around 2 pm.

It was part of an investigation into forcible confinement, threats and firearm offences, police said.

“Due to the nature of the investigation and the risk assessment conducted, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment engaged the assistance of ERT for entry into the associated residence,” explained Supt. Jeff Pelley.

“Neighbours inside the containment area were requested to stay inside their homes as a safety precaution, until the suspects involved were taken into custody and the area was confirmed as safe.”

Several people were arrested and police remained at the scene into the evening. The RCMP promised more information as it becomes available.
