A Kamloops mine is the latest to be hit by COVID-19.
New Gold's New Afton Mine announced that two workers tested positive for the virus this week. The mine, which is located 17 km outside of Kamloops, confirmed the first case on Friday night and the second on Sunday morning.
These cases are not believed to be linked. Both affected individuals are not on-site and quickly alerted New Afton of their positive results. They are now self-isolating for 14 days.
Since the positive test, a rigorous sanitation process occurred and contact tracing is underway.
"At this time, site access will remain as is with existing preventative measures and daily operations have not been impacted," wrote the mine.
"Our thoughts are with both them and their families and we wish them a full recovery."
