On Saturday, September 19th the YMCA of Okanagan will host the 9th annual event featuring a stationary cycling class, kid’s zone, silent auction, prizes, and food. The event is presented by Fresh Air and Delcourt Wealth Management at ScotiaMcLeod and is a chance to team build with your colleagues and bond with family and friends. Mayor Colin Basran was a spectator in 2014, and he has joined together with event veteran, Todd Simpson, to put in a team this year.

"It was a great event,” said Basran. “People were having a good time, enjoying the music, getting a workout in and supporting a great cause that helps kids right here in our community. I’m excited to participate this year.”

Entry to the event is free with a fundraising goal of $250 per individual to take part in the day, which will be held from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. By raising the fundraising goal, it will provide a child with a one year membership at the Y.

“This is a workout with a great payoff,” said Pam Murkin, Event Coordinator for YMCA of Okanagan. “Funds raised at Cycle for Strong Kids go towards giving local kids in need the opportunity to develop skills, character and self-esteem through sponsored YMCA child care, camping or children’s programs.”

The more cycle participants raise for the cause, the better their chances are to win prizes including a Big White vacation package, one year membership to the Kelowna Family Y or H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre, and a two night stay for two people in a deluxe guest room at any Prestige Hotel and Resort.
