Okanagan College will host its seventh annual traditional Powwow at the Kelowna campus on Thursday and the public is invited to attend.
This year Richard Jackson Jr. of the Westbank First Nation will be the emcee at the event, which will bring together students and community members from across the region. With more than 40 years of knowledge and experience in directing Powwows, Jackson will engage youth by remembering and honouring their traditions.
The event will include drumming from Birch Creek, who are the host drum, as well as guest drumming from Iron Mountain. Dancers will perform in categories of traditional, fancy, grass, and jingle. The event is free to attend and will take place in the college courtyard from 10:15 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
