National Pharmacare Policy Up For Discussion in Kelowna

A public discussion on the national pharmacare policy will take place in Kelowna on Thursday.

The event will take place at the Ramada Hotel at 2170 Harvey Avenue from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. and will be hosted by Steve Morgan, a professor with UBC’s School of Population and Public Health. Morgan will discuss the importance of access to prescription drugs and how the public pharmacare system works.

Mary Ann Murphy, associate professor of sociology and social work at UBC Okanagan, will introduce the discussion, titled Pharmacare: Making necessary care affordable for all Canadians.

The presentation and discussion will examine how universal, comprehensive, public pharmacare —working in conjunction with the universal medicare system — is the best way to ensure that all Canadians have equitable access to necessary medicines at an affordable cost to patients and society as a whole.

The event is hosted by the Okanagan Chapter of CARP, a national non-partisan, non-profit organization promoting social change. Admission is free and all are welcome, but attendees are encouraged to register online to secure a seat.
