Center of Gravity Back for 2016, But With Age Restrictions

The organizers of the popular Kelowna event Center of Gravity (COG) have announced it will return to Okanagan beaches again for 2016, but with a number of changes.

An age restriction will be in place for concerts in 2016 as only those 16 and older will have access to the main concert bowl. The festival, which will run July 8th to 10th, will allow those under 16 to attend the festival with a sports pass, but it will not give them access to the Main Stage.

The festival will also be adding a large outdoor CrossFit tournament to the sports events. COG will work with CrossFit gyms from around the Okanagan and encourage teams to compete for cash prizes in the event. CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program consisting mainly of a mix of aerobic exercise, calisthenics (body weight exercises), and Olympic weight lifting.

The CrossFit Tournament is the latest addition to the nine sports hosted at COG including beach volleyball, basketball, skateboarding, BMX, wakeboarding, wakeskating, freestyle motocross, and snowmobile jumping.

The festival, which began in 2008, has been dubbed “Canada’s Hottest Beach Festival” and continuously sells out each year. The first round of tickets for the festival will go on sale on Friday, November 27th as part of a Black Friday Sale. A limited amount of three-day sports and music passes will be released for $169.95 plus tax. Once the Black Friday tickets are sold out, festival-goers will have to wait until Spring 2016 to purchase tickets.
