Future electricians in the Okanagan may have a brighter future thanks to Horizon Electric.
Students and employees of Okanagan College joined together to hear that Horizon Electric has donated $100,000 towards the new Trades Training Complex.
“From top to bottom our new trades training facilities are being designed, built, and outfitted with a great deal of input from our industry partners,” said Okanagan College’s Vice President Education Dr. Andrew Hay. “We are very grateful to Horizon Electric for supporting our vision to create a dynamic, new learning environment for trades students.”
Okanagan College students will have access to three new electrical control labs after the complex opens in the spring of 2016. The new facility will be full of the latest equipment, technology and workstations specifically geared for electricians.
Electricians have been named as one of the top trades job across British Columbia. In the next seven years more than 1,000 new electricians will go through the electrical program. The Okanagan College Foundation is hoping to raise $7 million to help with the $28 million investment by the Government of B.C. for the new building.
