Habitat for Humanity Kelowna has completed the first of three duplexes in Peachland and welcomed the first homeowners on Saturday.
The key dedication ceremony took place at the home on Princeton Avenue. Around 60 people were in attendance for the ceremony, which was emotional for many. New homeowner Melanie Evans called the generous donation life changing.
“I am so honoured to be the first family chosen. Thank you to Habitat for Humanity for being able to provide me and my family a place that is safe, secure and stable,” said Evans. “It lets us have dignity and we don’t have to worry about where we are going to go next.”
Evans and her children are excited to move into their home and have their own bedrooms.
A second homeowner was also present for the ceremony and she will also receive a home thanks to the generous donation of land from the District of Peachland. Jordan says she is excited to move into a home free of mould, and having a home that is her own to do what she wishes.
Habitat for Humanity has served over 25 families in the community and will be helping another two families once the project is complete in 2016.
