A Kelowna author has another accomplishment to add to his writing resume.
Dave Trifunov, who is the managing editor at The Daily Courier newspaper and a published author has been recognized by The Canadian Children’s Book Centre (CCBC). His book Ice Time has landed on the Best Books list for fall 2015 by CCBC.
“This is a tremendous honour; I really wasn’t expecting it at all,” Trifunov said. “It’s so exciting and so encouraging to see an organization like the CCBC recognize the work.”
The book was published this past spring by James Lorimer & Company of Toronto. The book follows Paul Bidwell, who dreams of playing hockey in Saskatoon. The mother of Bidwell is a single mom and money and time has always kept the boy off the ice.
Eventually Bidwell gets the chance to live his dream of playing organized hockey, but he must overcome many obstacles to get there.
The National Reading Campaign calls Ice Time a “knuckle-biting glide down slick ice that will feel heartwarmingly familiar to Canadian readers.”
Trifunov’s debut novel was placed in the “reluctant readers” category for the 2015 best book list.
Ice Time is available at Mosaic Books and Chapters in Kelowna, and a follow-up to Ice Time is currently in the works.
