Cops for Kids Receives Largest Donation in Foundation's History

Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation has received the largest single donation in the foundation’s 15 year history. This charitable donation, of $100,000 in securities, was made by Kelowna businessman and philanthropist, Al Hildebrandt.

The recently retired founder of QHR Technologies Inc. has been supporting the Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation for the past four years now, and as a former police officer in Calgary (1972-1978), this cause is very special to him. “I’m always thinking about the police in general and what they do for community service. In this specific case, when I was able to connect with the group here (Cops for Kids), and seeing the passion that Gail Harrison and the other people are doing for the organization, I just felt it was a good match.”

When asked what he hopes the donation will be used for Hildebrandt said, “I’m confident that they operate by reviewing committee grants of people looking for some assistance. Assistance can be in the form of anything from mobility devices like specialized wheelchairs to projects that would help someone stay with their children if they happen to require an extended stay at Vancouver Children’s Hospital.”

Cops for Kids Charitable Organization raises funds through many events throughout the year, to accompany the donations from Al Hildebrandt and many others. All money raised through Cops for Kids supports children that are in medical, physical or traumatic crisis. As Cops for Kids rider Georgina Josefsson put it, “the kids are the whole purpose.” These children and their families suffer from all kinds of disabilities or problems, and they rely on community support to help them through it. The Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation helps to make these difficult times a little bit easier on the children and families in need.

“I truly do want to stress that it is a really well managed charity. It’s relatively small in nature compared to some of the larger ones out there, but in terms of the dedication of the senior people toward the actual cause of taking care of children - it’s unmatched,” Hildebrandt expressed.

This generous donation is very timely with December 1st, being National Giving Day. The “opening day of the giving season” challenges individuals, companies, and organizations to put down the packages that were purchased on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and lend a helping hand. Grand gestures of large monetary donations to deserving charities or simple acts of kindness are all appreciated on Giving Tuesday. Hildebrandt’s donation to Cops for Kids takes Giving Tuesday to new heights, and Cops for Kids hopes that it will challenge other people and companies to give to worthy causes as well.

“Al’s thoughtful donation has put us within $15,000 of a major fundraising milestone for Cops for Kids,” Gail Harrison, President of Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation, revealed. “We are extremely grateful to the Hildebrandts, both Al and his wife Irene for this contribution. They are truly on a mission to help Cops for Kids, and to us, this reflects the meaning of what it is to give back to a community. We hope that it will also spark motivation in others to support Cops for Kids. While we may be closing in on a milestone, further donations are always appreciated to help even more children in need.”
