150 mini garage sales in one place: The RDCO's Trunk Sale returns this weekend

Another popular Kelowna event is making its highly-anticipated return this weekend after a two-year pandemic hiatus.

Okanagan College’s Trunk Sale will take over the parking lot of the school’s Kelowna campus from 8 am until noon on Saturday.

It’s essentially 150 mini garage sales in one place, as people will sell their pre-loved items out of the trunk of their car.

“The Trunk Sale model is unique in these parts, a mega garage sale from the backs of vehicles, one convenient location, tons of bargains. It’s a family-friendly way to spend a Saturday morning,” explained Rae Stewart, waste reduction facilitator at the Region District of Central Okanagan.

The RDCO’s waste reduction office has hosted this event for two decades, although it will be the 18th annual Trunk Sale this year thanks to the two years off due to COVID-19.

It promotes reuse and recycling to ensure that the community keeps any unnecessary and perfectly-good material out of our landfill.

One of the best parts about the Trunk Sale is that sellers will have an option to donate their items after the event is done if they don’t want to lug it home.

“The Kelowna and District SHARE Society will be on hand to accept donations, as will the Canadian Diabetes Clothesline group,” Stewart said.

“Plus, the Okanagan Mission Lions Club volunteers will be helping with traffic control and food sales.”

Stewart noted that the event would not be possible without all the tremendous community support.

The Trunk Sale is a rain or shine event and free to attend as a shopper. You can find more information on the RDCO website.
