RCMP Return Stolen iPad to 12-year-old Boy

A Kelowna RCMP officer has put the smile back on a Kelowna boy’s face.

The officer tracked down and returned an iPad which was stolen from the 12-year-old at a bowling alley last week.

On February 16, 2016 at 2:30 p.m., the Kelowna RCMP officers were called to the Capri Valley Lanes at 1835 Gordon Drive.

Video surveillance of the property showed the suspect taking the Apple iPad device.

Greg Woodcox, the NCO/ic of the Kelowna RCMP Downtown Enforcement Unit (DEU), was very familiar with the 24-year-old suspect, who had been arrested before.

On February 17th at 12:29 p.m., another officer of the DEU went to the Parkinson Recreation Centre where the suspect, of no fixed address, was arrested for the theft.

Police found out that he had allegedly sold the device on the streets to another well-known criminal, wanted by police for other offenses.

The suspect was released from custody on a Promise to Appear in Court at a later date.

Over the weekend, police tracked down the iPad, which had been damaged a little since the theft.

Sgt. Woodcox personally returned the tablet to the 12-year-old-boy, who was very happy to have it back.

“It’s really cool knowing someone who puts their life out there to protect someone they don’t even know,” the boy told his parents.
