You can now sign up to be an organ donor, while visiting an ICBC.
The automotive insurance carrier has launched a pilot program in partnership with BC Transplant to raise the number of organ donors in the province.
“More than 500 people are desperately waiting for organ donation in B.C.,” said, Todd Stone, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.
“Given that, the government of British Columbia is in full support of this new pilot and partnership between ICBC and BC Transplant. We believe it can make a real difference.”
Half of all British Columbians believe that they have signed up to be an organ donor, however in fact only 20 per cent of the province has.
“We know that an overwhelming number of our customers support organ donation so we’re pleased to get behind this important cause and make it easier for our customers to register their decision,” said Mark Blucher, ICBC’s president and CEO.
The program launched on Tuesday in Kelowna, North Vancouver, Abbotsford, and Royal Centre driver licensing offices.
