A man who was found by Kelowna RCMP asleep at the wheel is now facing potential charges.
On Thursday around 4 in the afternoon, a member of the public reported to the RCMP of a male slumped over their wheel at a parking lot.
When police arrived at the parking lot of a local convenience store on Richter Street they found the man in the driver’s seat, asleep. RCMP officers tried to wake up the 36-year-old man, but appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance and would not wake up easily.
RCMP was able to eventually wake up the man who was taken into the police detachment for testing, after illegal drugs were found inside the car.
“We want to thank the caller who notified the police and stayed on scene until the member arrived,” said Cpl. Tania Carroll.
“Had the caller not stayed, the driver could have woken up and began driving again, putting the public and himself at greater risk” added Carroll.
The man was released and will be appearing in Court on Sept. 29.
