An 18-year-old Kelowna cyclist is facing charges after an altercation between the man and a driver resulted in one person being stabbed.
On May 21 around 3:38 p.m., Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a pickup truck and a cyclist in the 400 block of Gramiak Rd. According to police, the cyclist was riding on a footpath and entered onto Gramiak Rd when he collided with the rear passenger side of the truck. The driver stopped and offered to help the cyclist, who responded with profanity and walked away.
Concerned for the cyclist’s well-being, the driver tried to follow him on foot. The 18-year-old left the area briefly, only to return and confront and threaten the driver’s son, who was holding an item police believed to have been left behind by the cyclist.
A physical altercation between the cyclist and driver occurred, and according to police, the cyclist stabbed the driver in the abdomen with a knife. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the victim’s son was not injured during the incident.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital for an assessment. He was later released and faces potential charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
