Kelowna brewing company debuts with 16 house-made beers

It’s a grand opening that not many people in Kelowna will want to miss as a brand new brewery opens its doors.

On Saturday, Kettle River Brewing Co is hosting their official grand opening starting at 4 p.m.

Chris Dedinsky, partner at the brewing company, said they will be pouring all 16 different brews (since it’s July 16). They have 20 litres of each brew and will be starting with one and working through to number 16.

There will also be two food trucks and music to get the party going.

“We’re really excited to have a bunch of people down here to try all the different beers that we’re making,” Dedinsky said. “We think everyone’s going to like it.”

Everything is made in-house, led by brew master and partner Brandon Amond.

The nano brewery has only one focus, beer.

“All we do is beer,” Dedinsky said, explaining that they also do growler fills and will sell 650 ml bomber bottles, hand bottled in limited batches.

“We’ve made probably 400 bottles in preparation for this weekend,” he continued.

The list of brews ranges from Pale Ale and Belgium Table, which Dedinsky classifies as two light and easy-drinking beers. On the other side of the spectrum, people who have tried many crafts beers may gravitate towards the Imperial IPA and XXXX Mild 1832.

Besides that, they have a few you may never have even heard of like a Dark Chocolate Milk Stout and a Raspberry Chocolate Stout.

“We hope that no matter what your tastes are you’ll find something here that you’ll enjoy,” Dedinsky said.

Dedinsky grew up in Vancouver but with plenty of family here the Okanagan wasn’t much of a departure for him. Amond is from the East and has experience brewing in the U.K. at Beavertown Brewing.

Their third partner Russ Higgs has lived here for ten years and was the one who got the group of three together.

“Russ is kind of the dreamer behind that. He’s always wanted to do this,” said Dedinsky. “Being in Vancouver and other places that have craft breweries, he thought Kelowna was missing that.”

Dedinsky, an advertiser by trade, had already done work for other beverage companies.

“The three of us got together and thought we could do this thing and here we are.”

You can find the new brewery at 731 Baillie Avenue.
