Kelowna mayor launches 'one bag' challenge

Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran is hoping to start a positive trend by giving back to those in need in the community.

Playing on the idea of the ice bucket challenge, Basran is starting the ‘one bag’ challenge which encourages people to donate food to the Central Okanagan Food Bank. Basran took to social media to introduce the idea with a short video.

He has challenged five people to go down to the food bank within 48 hours to either drop off one bag of food or make a donation online. Once the task is completed the nominated person has to post a picture or video to Facebook showing that they participated and then challenge five other people.

Basran has donated his bag of food to the food bank and challenged Andre Blanleil, Maxine DeHart, Renee Wasylyk, Darryl Reuter and Roz Huber.

The idea has been received great feedback so far on social media with many people commenting that they like the challenge. If it is anything like the popular ice bucket challenge, the one bag challenge could really prove to be a game-changer for the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
