West Kelowna RCMP used their police boat to rescue an incapacitated hiker July 24.
The police boat was dispatched after RCMP learned of a pair of hikers needing medical assistance near Commando Bay of Okanagan Lake in Okanagan Mountain Park.
According to Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey, two men had hiked about15 kilometers into Okanagan Mountain Park, when one became dangerously sick overnight. Suffering from dehydration, the man was physically incapable of hiking out of the park.
The RCMP boat, which was on the waters of Okanagan Lake at that time, located both hikers south of Rattlesnake Island. They were transported across the lake to Emergency Health Services who were staged at Antlers Beach in Peachland.
The Calgary man was treated at the scene and released by paramedics.
