The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be in Kelowna on Tuesday, spending their fourth day in Canada with some fun, food and wine.
At about 12:30, Will and Kate will help the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus celebrate their 10-year anniversary and the 100th anniversary of UBC by unveiling a plaque at the Kelowna campus.
UBCO is currently working with the Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) to better tailor programming to Indigenous students, including creating an Aboriginal centre and Aboriginal Access Studies program.
Their Royal Highnesses will meet the artist and view a piece of Indigenous Syilx art commissioned to honour the UBC Okanagan and ONA partnership.
For a bit of fun, the Duke and Duchess will head to the UBCO gym to be introduced to the UBCO mascot "Scorch" and join about 1,500 students to watch an inter-squad game with the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s volleyball team.
This game is open only to UBC Okanagan students who have received tickets to attend.
Just after 2 p.m., the royals will head off to Mission Hill Family Estate. There, they will take part in a “Taste of British Columbia” festival, which will showcase the province’s agriculture industry.
The Duke and Duchess will view the vineyard and will tour stations of samples and displays that showcase B.C.’s food and wine.
The general public is welcome to the UBCO visit, although parking and space will be limited.
There is no excess parking available on campus for people without parking permits.
Some properties on Innovation Drive north of UBC Okanagan campus have been made available for $10 a spot. People who park there will be shuttled to the campus.
Public transit to campus also continues to be available and is expected to be quite busy.
