Transit workers will enter their fifth day of strike action Monday morning with no end in sight.
The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1722 broke off talks with First Canada Wednesday night due to what Union President Scott Lovell said was “lack of any effort at all” by First Canada.
Drivers, maintenance staff and office workers within the Kelowna Regional Transit system officially walked off the job at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Since then those relying on public transit Transit in Kelowna, Lake Country, West Kelowna and Peachland have been left scrambling for alternate transportation.
A bit of good news for transit users is that they will now be able to apply for a pro-rated reimbursement for their monthly bus pass.
As per the City of Kelowna, “transit passes will be refunded on a pro-rated basis, for any service disruption over three days in length.”
Refunds will be available, with proof of purchase, at Kelowna City Hall only once strike action has ended.
Picket lines have been set up at the transit yards on Hardy Street as well as key transit hubs, such as the Queensway Exchange.
A picket line schedule on the Local 1722 website is currently set up until Nov. 26.
Transit workers have been without a contract since April 1.
