AquaJets come out on top in Snowfest meet

The Kelowna AquaJets Swim Club hosted 11 teams from around the region at the 41st Annual Snowfest Meet from January 20th-22nd.

The home team showed well, with 62 swimmers swimming hard en route to a number of new club records, personal bests and a first place overall finish.

Flyn Huber and Axana Merckx each broke a pair of records. Huber set those marks in the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke while Merckx posted record times in the 200m back and 50m fly.

Other new records included Andrea Kraetzer in the 50m breaststroke, Molly Hill in the 100m fly and Jasper Stone in the 50m breaststroke.

Christina Russo, David Dimitrov and Stefan Pripoae also set senior records in the open category.

Snowfest also happened to be the last chance for swimmers to qualify for the AA Provincials in Chilliwack and nine Aquajets earned that right over the course of the weekend.

The nine swimmers to qualify were Athina Merckx, Sara Gray, Oliver Dickieson, Dray Rolleston, Megan Allan, Olivia Courteney, Juliana Gallagher, Makenna Haight and Andrea Kraetzer.

Meanwhile, Rachel McInnes and Flyn Huber earned the right to represent the Aquajets at the AAA Provincials in Victoria.

In total, the club amassed a total of 75 podium finishes that included 26 gold, 24 silver and 25 bronze medals.

Abigail Jerome led the way with six gold medals and a silver medal as well.

Next up for the Aquajets are the AA Provincials in Chilliwack in mid-February.
