Nearly 100 motorists driving through Lake Country received Violation Tickets last week.
The RCMP handed out these tickets in one day and are hoping to send a message: Distracted Driving is the leading cause of Motor Vehicle fatalities in BC, according to ICBC.
Half of the violations were given for speeding and the other half went to Distracted Driving. The fine for Distracted Driving is $368 and four demerit points.
It is clear that the RCMP is taking Distracted Driving seriously and hope the price tag will be enough for drivers to pocket their phones for the drive.
"It is astonishing to see that, despite the public outcry and resulting increase in fines and points, so many motorists are still driving while distracted by Electronic Devices," said Cst. Steve Holmes of the Kelowna Municipal Traffic Services.
