The Okanagan Mission Tennis Club was recently awarded the 2016 Seasonal Facility Excellence Award by the Tennis Professionals of Canada. The award was given out during the 2017 National Coaching Conference in the Aviva Centre in Toronto.
“We feel that the Okanagan Mission is more than deserving of this honour and the Tennis Professionals Association and the Canadian tennis community are very proud of the club’s accomplishments,” says Ryan Borczon, Manager, Tennis Professionals Association.
Tennis matches have been played out on the Mission courts for more than 100 years. The club hosts six courts for both members and non-members. It boasts tournaments, fun leagues, social clubs and coaches for experienced players as well as for kids. A kids camp runs each summer providing lessons for various skill levels. The Okanagan Mission Tennis Club also hosts the Miele Provincial Championships.
The Okanagan Mission Hall Association (OMCHA) is a registered charity that hosts events for various clubs and educational programs. The Mission Tennis Club is affiliated with the OMCHA and is therefore known as a charity-run tennis facility. They also run a “try it” day for kids in schools throughout the Okanagan.
“The Mission Tennis Club is a very valuable asset to the community organization and provides a dedicated group of volunteers who donate hundreds of hours each year and are what truly make the Okanagan Mission Tennis Club what it is,” said Beverly Dawe, Manager, OMCHA.
