The Management Student Association of UBCO are taking part in the 5 Days for the Homeless Campaign over the course of this next week, and today they kicked it all off with an event in Kerry Park.
The event was the first of many fundraising efforts for the week.
In addition to raising awareness for the homelessness situation in Kelowna, the students are also raising funds for local organization H.O.P.E. Outreach, a non-profit organization that offers accommodations and resources for homeless women in our community.
Alongside the kick-off event, the students will be putting on BBQ’s, Pancake Breakfasts, hosting silent auctions and much more, in order to raise funds for H.O.P.E.
The group of student pledges will be sleeping outside at the UBCO campus starting Sunday, March 19th and the last night will be March 23rd.
Students will be expected to attend regular classes and will only be able to eat the food that has been donated to them, as a means to help them better understand the situations faced by Kelowna’s homeless population every day.
Their kick-off event will be going until 1 p.m. on March 19th in Kerry Park downtown by the sails, they have pancakes by donation, fun children's activities, and a silent auction.
