Hybrid restaurants are gaining popularity in Kelowna

Hybrid restaurants are popping up all over Kelowna and gaining a lot of popularity.

We’re going to list some of these restaurants in this article as well as tell you where to find them in Kelowna.

However, beforehand we're going to define exactly what we mean by a hybrid restaurant.

Generally, hybrid restaurants are places to eat that are somewhere in between a family dining restaurant and your typical fast food joint. Where the lines between full service and self-service blur and guests can order at a counter but have their meal delivered to them by a server.

There are many benefits to eating at hybrid restaurants: the food is relatively inexpensive, is generally healthier than what you would eat at a fast food place and the delivery doesn’t take too long.

However, there are also some confusing issues that can arise when dining at hybrid restaurants. Perhaps most notably, whether you should tip for your meal or not? And if yes, how much should you tip?

Wok Box

2300 Baron Rd #1, Kelowna

Wok Box is a great example of a restaurant that offers healthy food efficiently at relatively low prices. What also makes Wok Box a hit in Kelowna is that it offers a variety of different food options, from Chinese and Thai to fusion and vegetarian.

Mucho burrito

Sopa Square, 3030 Pandosy St, Kelowna,

With $5 burrito deals, Mucho Burrito is an ideal restaurant to grab a quick and affordable snack. Similar to Subway, visitors are invited to order their meal at the front counter and decorate their food with an array of toppings and sauces - however, the staff will offer to bring the food to you if you’re planning on eating in the restaurant.

Barcelos flame grilled chicken

Barcelos flame grilled chicken restaurant is new to Kelowna and just opened for businesses in March. Barcelos offers a space for families to dine while choosing to order from a combination of healthy dishes, including fast grilled chicken meals, sandwiches and salads. Guests can also choose to order food for take out.

Naked cafe

571 Lawrence Ave, Kelowna

A gem of Kelowna, Naked Cafe is another great example of a restaurant that offers affordable, healthy food in an efficient manner. Guests go up to the front counter, order their meal, take a table number and wait for a server to deliver their food. What’s unique about Naked Cafe is that 100% of their food is plant-based.

Latin Fiesta

<who> Google Maps Street View </who>

400 Highway 33 West B, Kelowna

Latin Fiesta offers guests with a diverse menu that’s both affordable and quickly prepared. Focusing primarily on Latin American and Mexican foods, Latin Fiesta is a good example of a restaurant that offers meals you could expect to find at a fine-dining restaurant for prices you would expect at a fast food joint.

There’s a good chance you’ve bought food at one of the restaurants listed above and what we want to know is how was your experience? Did you find your food was both high-quality and affordable? Did you tip when prompted? And if so, how much?

Let us know your thoughts and we may include your comments in a future piece on hybrid restaurants.
