Kelowna says 'no' to marijuana retail shops

On Tuesday, Kelowna City Council met, voted and amended the Medical Marihuana Bylaw No.11376 in order to clarify that the bylaw does not include the retail selling of marijuana.

The public hearing took place Tuesday evening and led to the final definition of a Medical Marihuana Production Facility to read as:

"a facility for the producing, processing, setting, providing, shipping, delivering and destroying of medical marihuana and can include analytical testing in permitted industrial zones and must be licensed under the Health Canada. This does not include the retail sale or dispensing of marihuana."

By not including the retail sale or dispensing of marijuana in the bylaw's definition, it excludes the selling of recreational marijuana.

This amendment does not interfere with the medical marijuana, which can be purchased from licensed producers.
