Interior Health has just declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Kelowna General Hospital.
According to IH, the outbreak has so far been contained to unit 5B. As of Saturday morning, one patient and one staff member tested positive for the virus.
There is currently no evidence of the virus transmitting to other areas of the hospital. This outbreak is not linked to the ongoing outbreak on unit 4B, which was declared on Feb. 22nd.
Outbreak control measures are now in place and a team of infection control and communicable disease specialists, as well as KGH clinical staff leaders, are meeting daily to contain this incident.
Residents can still visit the hospitals for emergencies and appointments. Self-isolation is not required after visiting the hospital.
