Kelowna City Council will be reviewing another rezoning application for a large daycare proposed for the Capri neighbourhood.
Earlier this month, Kelowna city councillors gave initial approval to a 65-space daycare at 962 Laurier Ave.
On Monday, they will be reviewing a similar rezoning application for 964 Laurier Ave., which is directly next door to the previous application.
In order for the daycare to be allowed, the property’s zoning will need to be changed to the MF1cc – Infill Housing with Child Care Centre, Major zone.
This location would provide spaces for 63 children along with three teachers and three assistants.
Hours of operation would be from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
At this point in the development process, Kelowna city councillors are only considering the land use changes. Any details about what the building will look like, or if it will operate with its neighbouring property, will be discussed once development permits are submitted.
City staff say this is a very ideal location for a child care centre.
According to the staff presentation, there are 1,896 residential units and 156 commercial units within walking distance of these two properties.
City planners recommend support for this application because it meets the intent of the Official Community Plan and future land use designation for core area neighbourhoods.
