Overnight road closures for Baron Road in front of Costco begin this evening

Baron Road will shut down between Leckie Road and Underhill Street for three nights over the next week, beginning this evening.

Fortunately, the weekday road closures start around the same time that Costco closes for the night and shouldn't disrupt shoppers too much.

The first milling-related closure begins at 8 pm tonight and the road will reopen to traffic at 6 am on Friday.

Once the milling is completed, crews will take a break over the weekend and return to work on the section of the road Sunday night.

There will be two nights of paving-related road closures, but fortunately, they will again be when Costco is either closed or near closing to avoid any major headaches involving shoppers.

The first is from 6:30 pm until 6 am between Sunday and Monday. Crews will be back at it again from 8 pm on Monday until 6 am on Tuesday.

“The City of Kelowna and onsite crews appreciate your patience during construction and apologize in advance for any inconvenience,” a City statement said. “Please obey safety personnel and signage on site.”

The work is part of Kelowna’s annual road renewal program, which involves 14 road segments spanning around 21 kilometres this summer.
