45 Kelowna drivers handed tickets for speeding in school zones over 4 days

Over 40 people were issued tickets for speeding in school zones last week, say the Kelowna RCMP.

Between Nov. 4 and 7, the Kelowna Municipal Traffic Section issued 45 violation tickets.

One driver was allegedly driving 69 km/h in a 30 km/h school zone on Hollywood Road South, the RCMP say in a news release.

“Speeding in an active school zone is considered high risk driving behaviour and will not be tolerated,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier.

“These enforcement initiatives will continue until the message is clear, slow down and help us keep our roads safe.”

In addition to those school zone infractions, officers also impounded four vehicles for excessive speeding in other areas of the city.

That includes a vehicle allegedly driving 108 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Glenmore Road and another driver was nabbed hitting 105 km/h zone in a 60 km/h zone on Highway 33.

Exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h can result in a fine of $368.
